The 14th international exhibition ROSUPAK 2009: the heartbeat of the packaging industry

ROSUPAK 2009: new market!
Russian and foreign suppliers of packaging machinery and technology are actively preparing for the main packaging exhibition of Russia and Eastern Europe. Over 350 domestic and foreign companies have announced a bid to participate in ROSUPAK 2009. Almost half of the amount of the ROSUPAK exhibition visitors are interested in premium packaging

There will be always something exclusive in the price as it always had been before. Everyone would like to possess a beautiful, exclusive thing. It is impossible to imagine premium goods without beautiful decoration of the package. The more refined and individual will be the approach to a packaging creation, the more successful will be the product.

Last exhibitions LUXPACK show that home producers have learnt how to make premium packaging better than in some countries. The victory of the Russian manufacturers of packaging in the competition Russian Grand Star (the Grand Star Russia), that took place together with LUXPACK, and competition World Star, organized by the World packagers organization WPO prove this fact.

In 2009 exhibition LUXPACK will present again their "know-how" and decorations of elite packaging. Manufacturers and premium packaging consumers are more and more interested in this sphere of the market.

It is proved by two facts. Firstly, the activity of participants LUXPACK-2009 concluding contracts and sending the application forms for participation is high enough. Being held annually since 1992, the largest international autumn food show with its grown-up reputation and traditions, is used by most domestic and foreign manufacturers and distributors as a tool for introducing their brands to the Russian market. This event has become a usual meeting place for food industrialists and professionals. ABI Research announced that it has reduced its 2007 market forecast for RFID software and services revenue to $3.1 billion, which represents a downward adjustment of approximately 15% from the firm's previous estimates..



According to RFID practice director Michael Liard, the lowered revenue expectations result from the current direction of RFID's evolution, not from any decline in the industry. "Four interrelated factors, particularly within asset-management and supply-chain-management RFID markets, have led us to revise our forecasts," he says. "They are: market consolidation; collaborative solutions; the growing availability of off-the-shelf commercial RFID software packages; and the improving level of skills in RFID project planning."

ABI Research expects to see considerable consolidation across companies as well as within companies as RFID solutions evolve. Consolidation among industry vendors and service providers will eliminate significant overlap and will lead to better-managed, more efficient solutions. These issues range from reader-level enhanced efficiency through cross-industry software and applications. "The goal is seamless integration," notes Liard. "Companies wishing to integrate RFID into the enterprise will naturally turn to their established software and service providers. If those vendors don't have a solution, they will frequently either build or buy one."

RFID technology is becoming increasingly standardized, which is fosteringin a variation on the market consolidation just mentioned"ecosystems of partners", each contributing elements to a common solution. These collaborative efforts mitigate software costs because users do not need to seek multiple sources.

Custom software by definition costs more than commercial software, and today, many larger developers are offering off-the-shelf packages that fit lower RFID integration budgets. Over time, ABI Research expects many parts of RFID logic, event, and business process oriented challenges to be met with software that requires limited change.

As companies gain experience in how to fit the data collected using RFID into their wider corporate strategies, their project planning skills improve. "Install in haste, repent at leisure' used to be a common pattern in growing RFID deployments," says Liard, "but with today's better planning, there's less waste, and less software needing premature replacement. End users are taking a more managed approach to budgeting and integrating RFID solutions internally."

ABI Research's latest RFID update, "Focus on RFID Software: Investigating New Solutions and Approaches", not only discusses these trends in depth, it examines many of the past quarter's RFID industry developments, and updates the service's forecast database. It forms part of the RFID Research Service.

Kraft Foods is investing $100 millions into the construction of a coffee production factory in the Leningrad Region.



Kraft Foods LLC decided to invest $100 millions, into the construction of a facility, which will produce and pack the instant coffee products. The factory will be deployed at the existing facilities in the Leningrad region. The decision is to be announced on February 28.

Kraf Food LLC is a part of the Kraft Foods International Group, a leading producer of packed food products. The Russian branch was created in year 1994. In year 2000, a full cycle facility was opened in the Leningrad region. Kraft Food International Group owns over 60 major brands, including more then 200 food product brands. The factory packs coffee into tin and glass cans. Currently, the factory packs such brands of the instant coffee as "Jacobs", "Maxwell house", produces chocolate candy products such as "Alpen Gold", "Toblerone" and "Vozdushniy" and also produces potato chips "Estrella".

The factory performance is currently ranged at 5 thousand tons of product a year, and the plan is to increase the output up to 10,8 thousand tons a year.

ProdExpo-2006 has greeted its visitors



The 13-th international exhibition was held in the ExpoCenter from Feb.13 to Feb 17, 2006, 61 countries took part in the event, 46 thousand sq. meters of the facilities were occupied by somewhat 2100 exhibitors (among them 1300 Russian companies). For the first time, the exhibition was divided into the specialized sections. The packing section was located in the pavilion N7 (1 and 2 halls). Its exposition consisted of different types of food packing, and equipment for the food packing production. The modern approaches, to the production of the packing, have been shown to the visitors. The winners of the ProdExpoPack contest, provided by the "Tara and packing" magazine, and by "Center of Packing, aesthetics and design", have presented their products in the pavilion. The winners of the nominations "Best packing for the food products" and "Promotion of the products at the places of sale" have presented their products. The winners were rewarded at on the last day of the exhibition.

The producers of packing will be obliged to pay a tax for the collection and re-manufacturing of their products.



Mr. Unis Lukmanov, chief of the Housing Committee, believes that producers of the packing should pay taxes for the collecting and re-manufacturing of their products. He hopes that the state Duma will consider the corresponding act until the end of the year 2006. At the press conference, in which British specialists in the re-manufacturing of the household wast took place, it was noted that such a law has already been enforced in the Great Brittan. According to the law, each producer of the packing has to provide its further re-manufacturing or utilization. If a producer does not provide such a service then it has to invest substantial funds into the manufactures which provide wast management services.

Mr. Lukmanov says, that taking into account an ongoing process of Russian entry into the WTO, we hope, that some part of the benefits, which the foreign companies, specializing in the packing production, will collect, due to the operations in Russia, will be spent to solve the ecological problems of the country. The issues of the ecological situation and the wast management are planned to be discussed during the Big Eight summit, which will be held in St. Petersburg in June 2006, says the general consul of Great Brittan in St. Petersburg Mr. George Edgard.

The results of the ProdExtraPack contest have been announced



This week, the first Russian contest for the best packing for the food industry "ProdExtraPack-2006", held during the biggest in the Eastern Europe exhibition "ProdExpo-2006", has been completed. The contest has been organized by the Center of packing, aesthetics and design, and supported by the subcommittee of Russian Commercial and industrial chamber for the development of the packing industry, the directorate of the "ProdExpo" exhibition, and by the International association "United Designers".

During the several months, the contest jury was accepting the works of the participants, 47 products of 35 companies have been presented to the jury. The winners have been nominated in the following nominations: "Glass packing", "Cardboard packing", "Transportation tara", "Packing from plastic materials", Packing from tin materials" "Promotion of the products at the places of sale". Finally, on February 13, during the first day of the exhibition, final session of the jury took place to elect the winners. The exposition of the contest products took place at the display of the "Tara and packing" magazine. Rewarding the winners of the ProdExtraPack-2006" contest is due on Feb. 17, the last day of the "ProdExpo-2006" exhibition. The rewarding will be held in the pavilion N7 of the "Expocenter". After the exhibition is finished the winner products will be on display in the Moscow museum of packing.
